Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
I just wanted to introduce my new foster. Ruby is a 4 year old beautiful chocolate mini dachshund. She weighs about 10 pounds and is So sweet. She was surrendered along with 14 other dachshunds from a breeder in TN. I just picked her up on Aug. 28th so I will have to post again when I learn more about her. I do know she is VERY timid as she is not used to a lot of human interaction. She gets along very well with my other dogs and surprisingly she loves children that are familiar with handeling small dogs. She has been around a 2 year old and was perfectly fine. She is crate trained and potty trained as long as she is kept on a schedule which is usually not the norm for breeder dogs. I have not heard her bark once since I have had her. She is very content with just laying in her crate or on the couch and observing. She has recently been brave and started following me around and even has nudged me a few times for some snuggles Walking on a leash, however, is not her strongest suit and i will need to work with her on that.
She is altered and completely vetted. Due to her timidness, it will probably be a month or two before she will be offically up for adoption, but I wanted to introduce this special girl to everyone

Re: Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
Thank you! I have been keeping her separate from my dogs for the most part and it seems to be helping. She is really bonding with my sister and me. She actually ventured out from her crate to find us this afternoon!!! which is def. a step! Hopefull the next 2 weeks will really help her come out of her shell. Poor girl...you can tell she is used to just sitting in one spot all day long...thankfully she is a healthy weight. I can't wait to show her how much fun a dog's life can be:)
Re: Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
Ruby is doing much better...still scared and shy but every day is trusting us more=) She will now follow me around the backyard...and even venture off on her own for a bit. AND she will come to the backyard all by herself and come right on in! (she used to be freaked out by the door and would hide behind the grill)
here is a video...very camera shy;)

Re: Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
Great News! I met Ruby's forever mom today...they drove here from Alabama to pick her up and when she saw her, she put her hands to her mouth and just gasped and said how beautiful she was=) We met at a Petsmart so they took ruby in right away to get her a new bed and everything=) They understand how scared and timid ruby is and have gone thru obedience training and are excited to work with her=)
re:Ruby
Yay!!
you must be so happy for her! I love to hear these happy endings!

Re: Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
yes thank you.....i am very happy..esp. for her....It was quite the challenge to find the right home for a girl as shy and terrified as Ruby was. Although she made great strides while at my house...she def. still needs a lot of work...hopefully this family can take her the rest of the way
Re: Ruby, The Chocolate Miniature Dachshund
just thought i would post an update. I just got the below email from Ruby's (now little bit's) mom. Talk about having the life! As I mentioned before, she came from a abusive breeder situation and was just beyond freaked out and terrified all the time. Constantly letting out her scent and hiding underthings with wide frightened eyes. Sounds like she is doing much better....
Hi Jessica,
Thought I would give you an update on Little Bit. She is making progress in that she will actually come through the exterior bedroom door without neurotically going in and out repeatedly like she used to. She comes over to my side of the bed and waits for me to pick her up.
She still has a bit of neurotic behavior with meal time so she is now treated like a princess and is fed by hand wherever I am.
We are continuing to socialize her with Saturdays at PetSmart and Lowes. She lets strangers pet her but doesn't like going through the doorway. She is mellow around the two cats. Gus pursues them, but Little Bit ignores it all. I bought her several easter dresses and hope to have some photos soon. I will send you a photo when I get them.
She and Gus are so funny around other dogs. Gus likes all dogs. but they both go crazy wanting to socialize with any dachshunds we encounter out.
We take them to the video store also and they picked out Beverly Hills Chihuahua. they love watching the animal planet too.
We have reservations for the Dachsie Derbie weekend and are bringing both puppies but don't know what to expect
Well I hope things are well with you.
Debbie
